It made me angry to see a man forced to live on the street, dragging his belongings behind him on a chair. I was also riveted by his form: a black silhouette, without face or even hands showing, only his grey hair between hat and collar. I took the picture as he leaned forward on a diagonal, his back heel lifted, and thought this would make for a sense of motion and struggle—but he seems strangely frozen in space. I think this photograph has a relation to the one opposite, though the subject matter is very different, and has some humor. The cow is a rather substantial being, yet appears flat and unmoving, almost like a billboard.
